Online Game — Debug D'Burgh
As part of the Pennsylvania Resources Council's litter awareness campaign, they wanted to develop a game for grade school students. The game was designed to encourage students not to litter, explain to them the length of time it takes for common items to decompose, and increase their general awareness on the types of litter and its sources. Along with an illustrator, I developed the game in Macromedia Director for distribution as both a CDROM application and as a Shockwave movie.
Health Education — Meducator
Interactive Information was interested in producing kiosk-based education videos. The goal was to assist health professionals in teaching patients self-efficacy. With the use of scenarios from daily life, patients were shown what happens when they do and do not try to control their illnesses. Animations explained more complex concepts such as how certain systems function within the human body. At the end of each scenario the patient was able to print out related handouts that reinforced the key messages. I created the user interface for the kiosk and all of the animations.
Medical Software — DoseResponse
Keystone Therapeutics was interested in developing both a web-based software application and a public web site to promote the DoseResponse product. We designed the application to be used by office staff and clinicians to assist in the management of patients taking a blood thinner. My roles included interface designer, information architect, and software developer.
Sales Presentation — Frontline
While employed at Inmedius, Inc. we produced an interactive sales tool that highlighted and demonstrated one of the company's software applications. The tool was produced in Macromedia Director for distribution via Inmedius' web site, as well as on CD for the sales force to use when meeting with prospective clients. I was responsible for editing the script and producing the project in Director.
Web Design — Human Genetics
The growth of the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh motivated the redesign of an aging web site. In addition to a visual redesign, a new information hierarchy was devised, making content more accessible. Information was grouped for the various web site audiences and content was updated accordingly. I worked directly with representatives from the department to complete the information and visual design phases of the project.
Diversity Training — In All Respects
Faculty in the Philosophy Department of Carnegie Mellon had a concept for a training tool to teach high school and college students about racial diversity and sensitivity. The students were placed in the role of producer at a college television station. Their goal is to shoot and edit a piece on racial issues on campus. The application included a library video clips, a mini video editing tool, and a playback mechanism, all written in Macromedia Director. In addition to initial concept development and visual design, I shared coding responsiblity on the project.
